Family involvement contributes to the richness of our community and directly impacts each student experience at Westside School. Westside School Volunteer Opportunities

Westside School Fund

Through the Westside School Fund and Annual Spirit Auction, Westside School depends on volunteers to help raise necessary funds for our program, while keeping tuition affordable. Donations help cover more than 10% of the school’s operating expenses, including faculty salaries, professional development and tuition assistance. As a volunteer, you have an opportunity to broaden your understanding of the school and its needs while having a positive impact on the community.

Annual Spirit Auction

The 2017 Spirit Auction, happening Saturday, March 18, is the largest fundraising event of the year. There are many volunteer opportunities before, during and after the event, for all types of skills and availability. This is a great opportunity to work with fellow Westside families, while raising important funds for our school.

Party Chairs

The role of the Party Chairs is to make the evening fun, well decorated and delicious. In addition, the Party Chairs are responsible for organizing and overseeing the event night program and volunteers.

Procurement Chairs

In conjunction with Westside School, these chair positions oversee all of the procurement activities for the auction. They will assemble, lead, coach and cheer a team of volunteers to reach the procurement goals as well as track the procurement efforts from start to finish.

Procurement Volunteers (x10)

Under the leadership of the procurement chairs volunteers will send letters, make phone calls and obtain item donations from local business and the Westside School community.

Dessert Dash (x2)

Dessert Dash Volunteers are responsible for organizing the making and delivery of 25-30 desserts for auction night. In addition they will create a display of the desserts for attendees to salivate over as they enter for dinner.

Class Art Projects (x5)

Art Project volunteers work closely with students and art teachers to create one amazing piece per grade (Pre-K through 4th Grade). Art projects are fun to get involved with and generate important funds for the school.

Buy-in Parties (x1)

The Buy-in Party volunteer utilizes their creativity, social skills and party planning abilities to help plan, organize and implement amazing events donated by fellow Westside School families.

Raffle and Games (x2)

The Raffle and Games Volunteer will work with the procurement chairs to solicit items for the raffle and balloon pop. Raffles and games provide fun giving opportunities for donors of all giving levels.

Decorating (x2)

Decorating volunteers will make sure the evening looks great and is aligned with the auction theme. They will use their creativity to spruce up the theater, lobby and gym.

Promotional Videos/Slideshows (x3)

Each year the auction includes various short videos and slideshows, including material for community service projects, the fund-a-wish, tuition assistance and more!

General Help (unlimited)

Putting on an auction requires a ton of moving pieces and there is something for everyone. Sign-up for general help including stuffing envelopes, picking up supplies and more!


Families in search of a school for their student strongly value the input of current parents and guardians. The Office of Admission hosts a number of events throughout the year where the power of your participation can make a big difference. Whether as someone ready to meet and greet prospective families, or to help with event logistics, we would appreciate your help!

Tour Ambassador

We ask tour ambassadors to join our fall admission tours. The tour ambassador’s role is to add details to the tour narrative from his or her personal experience at the school and to respond to questions from the perspective families. Tours will be held bi-weekly, mid-October through mid-January.

Open House Volunteer

At our Open House events volunteers welcome families entering the school, help prospective families navigate the school and are ready to answer questions during the informal gathering portion of each open house.

Lower School Open Houses: Saturday, November 5 and Saturday, December 3

Both 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Middle School Open House: Wednesday, November 9, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Mentor Families

Current families act as mentors for our newly admitted families. These volunteers will be matched in April 2017 with a new family entering at their child’s grade level. Mentor families are encouraged to make a welcome call right away and to later attend the New Family Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, 6:15-7:30 p.m. We also ask mentor families to connect with their mentees over the summer.

Event logistics

We appreciate volunteer help for all Admission events, including event food ordering, decorations and supplies, and event setup/cleanup.

West Seattle Parade and Summer Fairs

Local events present excellent opportunities to reach perspective families. Having current families staff the Westside School booth is a great way to promote Westside School and generate interest from the greater community. Events include:

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the governing body for Westside School. The Board works alongside the Head of School at a policy level to ensure the highest level of operational stewardship and to support the overall educational quality of the school. Trustees are the stewards of the school's Strategic Plan, which endeavors to position the excellence and well-being of the school long into the future. The Board is comprised of volunteers from within and outside of the Westside Community who commit their time, resources and expertise to support and elevate the school.
