Reopening Lower School

Lower School Reopening Plan

We are happy to have our youngest students back on campus this winter, and to have begun the return of our older students as the year progresses. As always, we will continue to monitor local and state guidance as well as community transmission number and readjust our plan as needed.

Please see below for details of our Winter/Spring 2021 reopening plan.

Grade-Specific Plans

Students and teachers are assigned to learning cohorts of no more than 15 students, with each group occupying a designated learning space. A limited number of adults will move between each classroom, with students remaining in one place. Necessary transition times have been carefully planned to limit the number of individuals in any area at one time. All of our on-campus grades will arrive and leave school on a staggered schedule at two different entrances. There will be no EDP before or after school.

Families Who Prefer Their Student(s) To Continue To Learn Remotely

Some of our families have elected not to send their child(ren) to school on the days when their classmates are on campus.

For those students who will engage remotely from home on the on-campus days, we strive to give them a robust learning experience through a remote student only, multi-grade, one room schoolhouse model. Students will meet daily with a dedicated teacher to learn the same subject and concepts being taught in the classroom. Remote teachers will continue to meet and plan with grade level teachers to ensure academic consistency. Students will have the opportunity to connect remotely with the rest of their grade level during arts and language classes, as well as during Friday remote class meetings. Obviously, because the at-home students will be connecting through a screen, the day will feel different. Families should not expect a replication of the in-person experience.

Please note that the remote program we have created is meant to offer students the complexity, consistency, and dependability of a classroom setting. For this reason, students who are not enrolled as remote students will not be able to access remote classes for the purposes of planned absences or travel. If you have questions about remote learning, please contact Richard Gawne.

SPECIALISTS

Specialists will be part of the Lower School curriculum, students will continue to receive a robust and live specialist schedule that is easily adaptable between on-campus and remote instruction.

START TIMES AND END TIMES

As part of our reopening plan, students who will be on campus will have staggered drop-off and pick-up times. Please note your child's drop-off and pick-up times in the grade-specific plans.
