Every year, our 6th and 8th grade students dive into the world of science with curiosity and enthusiasm, culminating in Westside School’s annual Science Fair.
This event is the result of weeks of hard work—brainstorming project ideas, conducting experiments, and analyzing results. More than just a showcase, it’s a reflection of our commitment to student-led learning, where students take ownership of their projects from start to finish.
Rather than following a prescribed experiment, students choose a topic that sparks their interest. They design their own investigations, test their hypotheses, and interpret their findings, embracing both successes and setbacks along the way. The result is a diverse range of projects that highlight creativity, critical thinking, and a deep engagement with the scientific process.
The Science Fair is not just for students and their families—it’s a school-wide event. Students from all grades are invited to explore the projects, ask questions, and learn from their peers, creating a dynamic, interactive learning experience for the entire community. For 8th graders, the fair is an especially meaningful milestone, as their projects integrate both science and math, deepening their understanding of how these disciplines intersect.
From experiments on environmental impacts to engineering prototypes and chemical reactions, the fair is a celebration of curiosity and discovery. It’s an inspiring reminder of what happens when students are given the freedom to explore their ideas and take ownership of their learning.
We couldn’t be prouder of our 6th and 8th graders for their hard work and creativity. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next year!
