Cross Country Makes a Triumphant Return!

On Sunday, October 3, at Lake Sammamish State Park, Westside participated in our first live cross country meet in two full calendar years. The rain held off through the morning and hit just in time for our first race of the day, the 6th grade boys. It rained hard enough to soak much of the grounds and the participants and spectators, but then the sun emerged, and we finished with a beautiful fall day.

We had a great meet overall, with 18 runners participating, and everyone giving their best effort. The camaraderie, spirit, and support across grade levels, and from families and coaches, was palpable and inspiring. Westside also placed highly in several races, with Elise Corr and Myllie Seeger winning the 6th grade and 8th grade girls' races respectively. Westside had two other top 10 finishes from Elliot Parks-Magathan and Maddox Fox, and our 8th grade girls team finished second overall in their race.

Although it was abridged, coming off a year with no running, this season was the perfect way to start off the school year. We look forward to a full track and field season in the spring, hopefully open to 4th-8th graders, and a full cross country season next year.
