A Successful 2022 Volleyball Season

A Successful 2022 Volleyball Season

This blog post was written by Director of Athletics, Mike Thomas.

Most of Westside's volleyball teams finished their regular seasons last weekend, and it was a very successful first full season back in the gym since 2019.

Group of 8th grade girls playing volleyball

Westside 8th graders, who started together playing co-ed as 4th graders, are moving onto the playoffs, with boys and girls both playing Sunday. 8th grade girls completed an undefeated regular season, winning the regular-season division championship, while boys won their last four matches, to finish the season 5-2 and tied for second in their division.

Both of our 7th grade teams showed lots of growth this season, learning how to play more advanced volleyball, coming together as teammates, and both teams picked up a couple of wins along the way.

Our 6th grade girls joined our 8th grade girls with an undefeated season and regular season division championship, and are moving onto the playoffs, starting tomorrow (Wednesday) night. Our 6/5 boys showed lots of growth, playing against older teams, and mostly playing the sport for the first time. We finished 3-4 and missed the playoffs by one match, and are excited to keep growing together over the next couple of years.

Our 5th grade girls didn't have enough players to play a game schedule this year but had a practice season. They had lots of fun and showed tremendous growth along the way.

We also have a 4th grade co-ed team with a big roster, and they have been practicing each Friday and actually won their first set last Sunday. Their final match is next Sunday at Westside at noon.

Thanks to all of our parents and the Westside community for the great support this season, and a big thanks to our coaches: Danielle DeLappe, Andrew DeLappe, Chris Frankovich, Sarah Kettler, Jen Howe, Carol Hoffman, Colleen Barry, Ryan Rainbolt, and Mike Stanfill, who have all put in a lot of hours and their dedication to our kids has been inspiring.

Here is the first week of Westside's playoff schedules. We would love to see some friendly faces come out and cheer on the Wolves.
