The Power of a PS through 8th Grade Community

Being part of a preschool through 8th grade school brings countless benefits. Multi-age connections are more than heartwarming; they are essential.

At Westside, our PS–8th grade model fosters deep relationships, meaningful mentorship, and a true sense of belonging. It’s common to see older students greeting younger buddies in the hallway or at recess, forming connections that enrich daily life. One of the most distinctive aspects of our program is the many opportunities for multi-grade activities, which strengthen relationships across ages and reinforce our strong sense of community.

From monthly Wolfpack gatherings to our reading buddies program, students regularly interact across grade levels, learning from one another in both academic and social settings. These intentional connections provide younger students with role models as they grow within the school, while older students develop leadership skills, empathy, and a sense of responsibility.

Life and work often bring people together across generations, and our multi-age learning environment mirrors this reality, preparing students for future success.

Across the grades, students engage in activities that encourage collaboration and creativity. Younger students might solve math problems created by older peers, explore musical instruments crafted by older students, or participate in lessons about science and nature led by older classmates. Middle school students often collaborate with younger students to celebrate cultural events, sharing traditions and experiences that deepen understanding and strengthen bonds across the school community.

Through experiences like these, students discover the joy of learning together and form connections that last well beyond their years at Westside. These interactions enrich academics while cultivating confidence, compassion, and a strong sense of community.

By the time students graduate, they have grown in a nurturing environment where they are known, supported, and empowered. They have experienced both being mentored and mentoring others, carrying forward values of leadership, kindness, and inclusivity. They leave Westside prepared not only for high school but for lifelong learning and meaningful connections in the world beyond.
