Family Movie Night
Target Audience: All ages, family and friends welcome, films are geared for Pre-School through 3rd Grade
Dates: 9/28/12, 3/8/13
Pack up your family and head to Cinema Westside (the gym) for Family Movie Night. A family friendly movie will be projected on the wall for everyone’s viewing bean bags, lawn chairs etc are welcome as well. Concessions including dinner and popcorn are for sale. All ages welcome, see you at the movies!
Family Dance
Target Audience: All ages, family and friends welcome
Date: May 3, 2013
Get out your fancy shoes, it’s time to dance! The Family Dance is a great community builder, and everyone who comes is sure to have a great time! Kids love it and adults have fun too! Every year, the theme will change, so save the date and twist, do the two-step or boogie-down! You may even want to show up in costume!
Halloween Fest
Target Audience: All ages, family and friends welcome; games geared to ages PS through 4th; Haunted Hallway for ages elementary and up
Date: October 27, 2012, Noon-4pm
This is one event you don't want to miss! Dress in your favorite costume and come join in the fun, along with your friends, neighbors and family! Everyone's invited! Westside gets filled with ghosts and goblins, and kids participate in lots of fun activities, including the jumper slide, face painting, and many more ghouly activities. Nearly our entire parent community takes part to make this WPO event a favorite every year.
Talent Show
Target Audience: Grades 1st and Up may participate; family and friends of all ages may attend
Date: January 31, 2013
New for the 2011-2012 school year! Your children can start planning for this winter event! Interested Westside students will perform in a talent show hosted by the WPO. There will be a performance for the whole student body and an evening performance for the whole family.
Family Summer Socials
Target Audience: All ages; incoming and existing Westside families
Dates: TBD
New as of Summer of 2011, Westside organizes monthly socials on the Westside playground for all current and future Westside students. This has been a great way for new families to begin to meet other Westside families.
Field Day
Target Audience: Enrolled Westside Students, Parents must accompany Early School Students
Date: May 31, 2013
Under the direction of Westside's PE teacher, Donna Jornlin, the WPO sponsors this event each spring. In addition to funding the event, we help with the planning and organize the parent volunteers that make this a fun-filled afternoon that the whole Westside community enjoys. Date: 6/1/13
Quiz Night
Target Audience: Adults Only
Date: November 30, 2012
Quiz Night is the Westside version of the neighborhood pub trivia night. This adults-only event will test your memory on a variety of topics. Adults will work in teams to answer challenging questions from Westside Humanities teacher Glyn Jenkins. Admission includes dinner and all the friendly competition you can get.
WPO Meetings, Parent Education Series & More
WPO Parent Education Series
Target Audience: Adults
The WPO hosts one to three meetings a year, with various speakers that discuss a hot topic! These meetings are a great way to meet other parents and to learn what’s going on in the school. This year we will also have informal coffees a few mornings during the year.
Google Groups
Target Audience: Parents of Enrolled Westside Students
A Google group allows you to interact with members from the entire community without having to make individual emails or phone calls. Google Groups are a great tool for sharing information, organizing events, and reaching out. Looking for a new nanny? Want to find out where other parents take their kids in West Seattle for haircuts? Just need some advice? Post your query on the Google group website!

Teacher Appreciation
Target Audience: All Westside Staff
Dates: Monthly, September through May
Our Teacher Appreciation is a year-long event with monthly lunches provided to the teachers and staff and culminates in a special Teacher & Staff Appreciation Day in May. Each grade level takes a turn to host a luncheon during the school year. Contact your room parent or the WPO if you are interested in helping out!
Pizza Days
Pizza Day is the biggest fundraiser for the WPO. We coordinate this fun “hot lunch” that the students love, and it gives parents a day off from making a full lunch about every other Friday throughout the school year. The children are encouraged to wear their Westside colors on these days. Even if your child doesn’t eat pizza, have them wear their colors and get in the school spirit!. Sign up for Pizza Days HERE.
Scholastic Book Orders
Books provides quality books for our children at extremely competitive prices. When we order books through Scholastic, we not only get a good deal, but the school earns credits with which to buy books for our classrooms and library. The WPO committee chair for Scholastics Book orders will work with a volunteer from each class to coordinate these monthly orders. Let your room parent know if you are interested in helping out!
