APPLICATION PROCESS

Please return the following forms:

1. Application Form and Family Questionnaire

To begin the application process, we must receive the completed application form along with a $65 non-refundable fee. Please attach a recent photo of your child. A cropped photo is acceptable. The application is due no later than February 15, 2008.

The Family Questionnaire helps us gain a better understanding of your child and your goals for his or her education. It also helps us understand your educational philosophy and your ability to support Westside School .

2. Teacher Recommendation

If your child has had preschool experience, please ask their teacher to complete the Teacher Recommendation form and return it in the envelope provided. They must send it in no later than February 15, 2008.

SCHOOL VISIT AND OBSERVATION

Preschool/Pre-kindergarten Visits and Observation will be held on March 1 and 8, 2008.

We will call you to schedule a one-hour session either on March 1 or March 8 where your child will join a small group of children for “playtime.” This gives teachers a chance to interact with and observe your child. During this time, parents will have an opportunity to talk with the Head of School and learn more about the program.

3. Student Reports and Records

In order to receive reports and records from your child’s school, a permission form needs to be completed by you and given to your child’s current school. The school will mail the reports and records directly to us.

CHILD’S SCHOOL VISIT AND OBSERVATION

As part of the admissions process, it is also required that your child visit the school. Visitations are scheduled as follows:

Kindergarten Visit and Observation: March 1 and March 8, 2008

We will call you to schedule a one-hour session either on March 1 or March 8. This is a special one-hour session for prospective kindergarten students. The children will be expected to participate in activities similar to those found in our kindergarten program. During this time, parents are asked to stay on the premises, but not in the same room with the children. Refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity to talk to the Head of School about the program. Please call the school to sign up for this visitation.

Classroom Visit and Observation for 1st through 5th Graders: March 1-21, 2008

Your child will spend a half-day in the classroom corresponding to his or her current grade level and will be expected to participate in all the activities of our program. Children in grades 1-5 will be asked to complete a short writing sample and a grade appropriate math diagnostic test. During this time, parents may leave our campus after they have handed in a release form and the phone numbers where they can be reached in the event of an emergency. Please call the school to set up a visitation for your child.

We look forward to learning more about your child! Please don’t hesitate to contact Kathy Winans at 206.932.2511 or kathyw@westsideschool.org should you have any questions.
