Posting Date: January 4, 2012
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Start Date: August, 2012
Located in West Seattle, Westside School is expanding its program in 2012 with the addition of a seventh grade. This is a unique opportunity to join our growing school at the inception of its Middle School program that will encompass grades five through eight. Westside is hiring teachers with a passion for Middle School students.
The successful candidates will be teachers who believe that in Middle School, self-esteem for a lifetime is cultivated, where students learn about and enrich themselves as individuals and build academic skills necessary to be competent and confident lifelong learners. Westside School is a place where students thrive in a safe, caring and inclusive community environment. Westside teachers are supportive adults who advocate, nurture, and support students with an engaging and challenging instructional program.
Intrinsic to the Middle School experience is blended, integrated learning facilitated through core teachers working in teams within flexible schedules. While a curriculum specialty is an advantage, the teacher should have generalist strengths to work as an integral member of the team. The planned Westside School’s Middle School preparatory curriculum provides foundations in Humanities (Language Arts including English, writing, and literature, and Social Studies); Mathematics; Science; World Language (Mandarin Chinese or Spanish); Physical Education and Health; and the Arts.
The successful candidate(s) should have a bachelor’s degree; an advanced degree is strongly preferred. In addition to demonstrating strong knowledge of content pedagogy, the candidate must show evidence of experience in developmental instructive techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles and needs of middle-school aged adolescences. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with other adults as members of the middle school team.
Compensation is competitive and includes medical, dental and retirement benefits.
