Assistant Head of School
Reports to Head of School; full time
Position Summary
The Assistant Head of School will help carry out goals established by the Head and the Board. She/he will play a role in defining and delivering on the school’s strategic plan and mission. She/he will help carry out operational policy, help develop and evaluate student programs and services, provide administrative and professional leadership for faculty and staff, and manage the day-to-day operation of the school in accordance with its the mission.
Essential Functions/Accountabilities
- Supervise faculty and provide on-going support in the professional development of faculty
- Tracks/decides on faculty professional development requests (including compliance with clock hours and DEL requirements)
- Consult with faculty in matters of pedagogy and classroom practice
- Observations and evaluations (formative and summative)
- Track absences
- Manage day-to-day academic operations (student, parent, faculty issues)
- Advise and monitor student academic progress
- Discipline and attrition
- Learning Team Meetings
- Co-curricular programs
- Coordinate master school schedule and calendar
- Facilitate seamless entry and exit of students
- Plans and coordinates emergency trainings/drills/health protocols
- Communicate with families on an on-going basis
- Curriculum and Assessment
- Work and support grade-level teams and cross-grade teams and integration with enrichment teachers
- Coordinate articulation and communication Westside curriculum
- Review and coordinate standardized testing program
- Review report cards
- Oversee the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement
- Maintain student discipline consistent with the school’s Code of Conduct policy
- Oversee screening of special needs and be the liaison between faculty and and tutors
- Liaison between faculty, admin staff and extended day, enrichment and summer programs
- Acts in Head’s place in the absence of the Head for Admissions, Development, and Business decisions and functions
- Reports directly to the Head of School.
- Other duties as assigned.
Relationships
Internal: Works closely and regularly with all levels of the school administrative and academic staff.
External: Works closely with various external organizations on an ongoing basis. Participates in professional activities and miscellaneous conferences and workshops to keep abreast of new developments as appropriate in the field.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution and Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years directly relevant work experience.
- Prior knowledge and understanding of integrated curriculum, the tenets of progressive education and brain research as it relates to curriculum development.
- Demonstrated skills with students and parents, and colleagues.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management and planning.
- Demonstrated classroom experience and leadership with a thorough knowledge of elementary school education.
- Demonstrated effective written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated management experience, including staff evaluation and curriculum development.

Fourth Grade Teacher for 2010-2011
As the only accredited independent school located in West Seattle, Westside School is in a period of growth. Westside is adding a second fourth grade section in the 2010-2011 school-year. We are accepting applications for this position. Candidates should have a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate. A master's degree and 3-5 years of teaching experience is preferred.
