Advancement Assistant

Westside School, located in West Seattle, is searching for an Advancement Assistant to join the Advancement team for the 2016 - 2017 academic year. This is a unique opportunity to join our community of learners and help shape the work of Enrollment Management and Development at Westside School.

This fall, Westside School moved to an exciting new campus in West Seattle, which supports our mission and values as a progressive, academically rigorous, relationship rich, pre-kindergarten through eighth grade school with the core values of Academic Excellence, Joyful Learning, and Creating Confident Learners in a Caring Community.

The Advancement Assistant will work closely with and report to the Director of Enrollment Management and the Director of Development to help facilitate the important work of the Advancement team.

Responsibilities include:

·         Assisting with the creation and execution of marketing material and mailings, including newsletters, materials related to Admission, the Westside School Fund and special events

·         Supporting the Advancement Department by maintaining accurate information in eTapestry and managing the Ravenna database

·         Actively engaging in special events including support for volunteers, vendors and staff, communication, data entry and reports as needed. Events include open houses, school fairs, high school planning night, the Spirit Auction and more.

·         Managing and leading campus tours when necessary along with the Director of Enrollment Management

·         Scheduling and participating in interviews with prospective families

·         Managing the Westside School Spirit Wear store and sales throughout the year, including quarterly inventory, ordering, and selling both online and during school events

Qualifications:

·         AA Degree with at least two years’ experience working in a non-profit Advancement office; BA degree and experience in an independent school environment preferred

·         Valid WA driver’s license and reliable transportation

·         Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

·         Interest in working with parent volunteers, prospective families and their children

·         Great attention to detail, proofreading, and written/verbal communication skills

·         Experience with databases in academic or administrative environment preferred

·         Graphic design skills a plus

Pre-kindergarten through eighth grade Music and Performing Arts Instructor

Westside School, located in West Seattle, is searching for an additional Performing Arts Instructor for the 2016 - 2017 school year. This is a unique opportunity to join our community of learners and shape the future of Westside School, which has a strong tradition of creative, child-centered, joyful learning, and a strong commitment to the arts. We began the 2015 school year in a brand new, state-of-the-art campus that includes a 400-seat theater and performance space, as well as a dedicated music room. 

The Performing Arts Instructor will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other arts teachers to support public exhibitions of learning and performances. The teaching load will include elementary (pre-kindergarten through fourth grade) music classes in the morning, and a variety of Middle School Exploratories in the afternoon.  Middle School classes are in the areas of instrumental or vocal music, composition, musical theater and/or technical theater, depending upon the skills and interests of the instructor and the passion of the students. 

The successful candidate(s) will have the following personal and professional attributes:

·         Bachelor’s Degree or higher

·         Experience teaching Performing Arts/Music at the Primary, Elementary and Middle School Levels, preferably in an Independent School environment

·         Strong knowledge of content pedagogy in the performing arts, particularly vocal and/or instrumental music, movement and theater

·         Experience in developmental instructive techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles and Awareness of 21st Century Learning Pedagogy

·         Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with other adults as members of a team-oriented, professional faculty

·         Appreciation for interdisciplinary, project-based learning

·         Willingness to serve as a Middle School Advisor if needed

·         Joy, passion, energy, caring and commitment

·         Love of children

Substitute teachers

 

Westside School is looking for both teachers and instructional assistants with experience working with children in grades, pre-kindergarten and eighth grade, to add to our substitute roster. We also need substitutes for music and performing arts, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, physical education, and visual arts.
