Westside School, located in West Seattle, is searching for an additional Performing Arts Instructor for the 2016 - 2017 school year. This is a unique opportunity to join our community of learners and shape the future of Westside School, which has a strong tradition of creative, child-centered, joyful learning, and a strong commitment to the arts. We began the 2015 school year in a brand new, state-of-the-art campus that includes a 400-seat theater and performance space, as well as a dedicated music room. 

The Performing Arts Instructor will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other arts teachers to support public exhibitions of learning and performances. The teaching load will include elementary (pre-kindergarten through fourth grade) music classes in the morning, and a variety of Middle School Exploratories in the afternoon.  Middle School classes are in the areas of instrumental or vocal music, composition, musical theater and/or technical theater, depending upon the skills and interests of the instructor and the passion of the students. 

The successful candidate(s) will have the following personal and professional attributes:

·         Bachelor’s Degree or higher

·         Experience teaching Performing Arts/Music at the Primary, Elementary and Middle School Levels, preferably in an Independent School environment

·         Strong knowledge of content pedagogy in the performing arts, particularly vocal and/or instrumental music, movement and theater

·         Experience in developmental instructive techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles and Awareness of 21st Century Learning Pedagogy

·         Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with other adults as members of a team-oriented, professional faculty

·         Appreciation for interdisciplinary, project-based learning

·         Willingness to serve as a Middle School Advisor if needed

·         Joy, passion, energy, caring and commitment

·         Love of children

Westside School is searching for an experienced, collaborative and creative Middle School Humanities Teacher for the 2016 - 2017 academic year. Located in West Seattle, Westside School is continuing to expand its Middle School program, which encompasses grades fifth through eighth. This is a distinct opportunity to join our community of learners and shape the future of the school. Westside School has a 1:1 iPad program in the Middle School, and an active expectation teachers will be comfortable with the use of integrated technology in and out of the classroom. We also expect faculty involvement in our outdoor/experiential education program, our advisory program, and our enrichment/elective classes for students.

Substitute teachers

 

Westside School is looking for both teachers and instructional assistants with experience working with children in grades, pre-kindergarten and eighth grade, to add to our substitute roster. We also need substitutes for music and performing arts, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, physical education, and visual arts.
