Westside School – Pre-kindergarten through fourth grade Instructional Assistant(s)

Westside School prepares students for the world by challenging them to achieve academic success and by connecting their human spirit to imagination and learning.

Position Summary: The role of Lower School Instructional Assistant is to provide support to students in the classroom and throughout the school day.  The Instructional Assistant’s day may include leading small groups during literacy or math lessons, working one on one with students, supervising students during recess and lunch periods, and working with students to problem-solve social and emotional conflicts with peers.

Additionally, Instructional Assistants provide leadership during our Extended Day Program, which provides morning care support for families beginning at 7:30 a.m. and evening support until 6:00 p.m.  We encourage and support our Instructional Assistants to implement programs, teach classes and practice teaching small groups while working in the extended day program.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

•    A desire to become an elementary school teacher or other related fields in education

•    Experience working with elementary school students

•    A willingness to learn about, reflect upon and support initiatives that benefit students

•    An expressed effort to collaborate with colleagues, accept feedback and conduct one’s self in a professional manner

•    Associates or Bachelors Degree or working toward completion of an academic certificate

 

Hours:   40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with hours set between 7:15 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.

Start Date: on or about August 20, 2015

Compensation and Benefits:  This is a full-time position for the 2015 - 2016 academic school year. Westside School offers a generous benefits package to full time employees. Compensation DOE.

Pre-kindergarten through eighth grade Music and Performing Arts

Westside School, located in West Seattle, is seeking an additional Performing Arts Teacher for the 2015- 2016 acadmic year. This is a distinct opportunity to join our community of learners and shape the future of Westside School, which has a strong tradition of creative, child-centered, joyful learning. We will begin the 2015 school year in a brand new, state-of-the-art campus that includes a 400 seat theater and performance space, as well as a dedicated music room. 

The Performing Arts Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other arts teachers to support public exhibitions of learning and performances.  The teaching load will include primary (grades pre-kindergarten through second) music classes in the morning, and a variety of Middle School Exploratories in the afternoon in instrumental and vocal music, dance, and/or composition depending upon the skills and interests of the instructor and the students. 

The successful candidate(s) will have the following personal and professional attributes:

·         Bachelor’s Degree or higher

·         Experience teaching Performing Arts/Music at the Primary, Elementary and Middle School Levels, preferably in an Independent School environment

·         Strong knowledge of content pedagogy in the performing arts, particularly vocal and/or instrumental music, dance, and creative movement.

·         Experience in developmental instructive techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles and awareness of 21st Century Learning Pedagogy

·         Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with other adults as members of a team-oriented, professional faculty

·         Appreciation for interdisciplinary, project-based learning

·         Willingness to serve as a Middle School Advisor if needed

·         Joy, passion, energy, caring and commitment

Substitute Teachers for 2015 - 2016

Westside School is looking for substitute teachers with experience working with children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade to add to our substitute roster. We also need substitutes for music and performing arts, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, physical education, and visual arts.
