Library Update
All Books Are Due!

By Sarah Wildflower, Librarian

In the library, we’re winding up for the year. Please check your houses carefully for any stray books. The students will be checking their classrooms for lost library books and making sure that all books are back in the library before summer break. We will not check out books these last few weeks; instead, we will be learning more about the library and listening to picture books read aloud.

I recommend that you find a special place in your house to keep library books, separate from your own books. A table beside a cozy place to read is great place to keep them. It helps your children keep track of books.

The 1st-3rd graders have gotten really good at finding books in the library. The next time you’re in a library, have your child help you find the book -- they know to find first the section, and in fiction, to search for the author’s last name. We’re working on alphabetization, so they can orient themselves and get to the right section quickly, no matter what library they are in.

For summer, I highly encourage you to pick a day to go your branch library. It’s great to get kids in the habit of books. (And, for adults, it minimizes overdue books to go often and on the same day of week.) I go to the library on Thursdays -- maybe I’ll see you there!

End of the Year Pool Party
Friday, June 15, 3-7pm

It’s not too late to sign up for the end of school pool party... there’s still a few spots for your family left...

Maybe an end of school pool party didn’t seem like a good idea at the auction way back in March...but now that it’s scorching in Seattle! A great BBQ and a dip in the pool is the perfect way to end a spectacular school year and get summer officially underway!

$100 donation per family (checks made payable to Westside School) pays your entry to burgers & dogs, soda, chips and soft-serve ice cream, endless swimming and priceless fun at Rainier Golf & Country Club. If you’re interested, please see Jana Riggan in the office.

Thank you to the Bjornson, Leber, Smith and Lamb families for hosting this fun filled event!

Medications and Lost & Found

As we approach the end of the year, we would like to remind everyone to check through the lost and found, which will be on a table in the hall. Also, please to remember to pick up any medications/inhalers that we have kept in the office. After the end of the year, medications left here will be tossed and the clothing items will be given away. Thank you!

House Remodel

By Heidi Radolla, Business Manager

Some of you may have noticed that the house is being remodeled. (Westside School owns the house behind the school building on 30th Ave SW.) Brent Fosso and Ann Fleck, parents of two Westside students, are managing the project, due to be completed sometime in August.

The shed has been removed, new doors have been installed, and the house has been gutted and is ready for other improvements. When it is finished, the business office and other staff offices will move into the house. It will also feature a large meeting space and a brand new kitchen!
