In addition to graduating our 5th graders, each 1st-3rd grader will receive a special “Spirit Award”. The 4th graders graduate the 5th graders and it will be a special night for them as the leadership of the school passes on to them. It is a special night and we hope you can come.

All Call for Field Day Volunteers -
Needed Friday, June 6th

Don’t miss watching your child participate in this year’s “Olympic” themed series of playground games. P.E. teacher Donna is sure to dazzle us with an exciting array of activities and you won’t want to miss the 5th graders eating donuts blindfolded or the Westside faculty tossing water balloons! We have 18 teams this year and need volunteers to help set up games, serve as team leaders, serve pizza and hand out popsicles. This is one of Westside’s best events – don’t miss it! Sign up to volunteer by contacting Susan Oxholm (206) 313-2523 or signing up on the sign-up sheet on the WPO board inside the front door.

Kindergarten Lemonade Hit the Spot

By Carolyn Comick, WPO President

The weather may have been a bit cool, but that didn’t stop our kindergarten parents from giving a warm welcome to the 2008/2009 kindergarten families. Last week the current kindergarten families treated the 2008/2009 kindergarteners and their parents to lemonade and cookies on the playground.

Angela Graves and Tracy Beck co-chaired this event. They were helped by kindergarten parents Cynthia Jordan, David Hlavsa, Cindy Burke, Christina Mastrangelo, and Peter Levine. Many thanks to all of you for taking time out of your day to reach out to our new families!

Mentor Families Still Needed

We’re still looking for several mentor families. It’s an easy way to get involved and to meet some of our new families. It requires very little time - just a welcome phone call and/or email. Get togethers and other “meet and greet” activities are up to you. Last year, some families did a little and some did a lot. Your involvement is up to you, but every new family will have a mentor! Please email Kathy at kathyw@westsideschool.org to learn more or to sign up! Thanks for your help!

Auction Volunteers Needed

Mark your calendars for Westside’s 20th Annual Auction at the Hall at Fauntleroy on Saturday, March 7th, 2009. The auction is always a fabulous community event and it takes a great group of dedicated volunteers to ensure a fun and successful evening. The planning committee will start working on the auction with one meeting in December and we are looking for volunteers to join our team. There are all sorts of jobs with varying levels of work and commitment. We will have 5 or 6 team meetings scheduled for the end of the school day at 2:00 or before school at 8:00 with child care provided for children attending Westside. If you would like to help out or have questions please contact Celesta Bjornson at cbjornson@comcast.net or Jana Riggan at janar@westsideschool.org.
