Fund-a-Wish Tuition Assistance
After careful consideration, the Board of Trustees and I have decided that we will have only this one fund-a-wish this year – tuition assistance. One of our major priorities is supporting our families, especially during these tough economic times. The need is so great this year that Westside School is postponing other wishes. Other requests or needs pale in comparison.
A percentage of your tuition is allocated toward tuition assistance. This percentage is not as large as our requests. The Tuition Assistance Fund-a-wish helps fill the gap and meet the needs of our families. In past years, our school community has generously demonstrated that we are dedicated to helping families afford a Westside School education.
This year, we’ve received more requests than ever before. We have requests from families who received financial assistance last year, current families who have not needed tuition assistance before but have had a change in their financial situation, and new families who are applying for the 2009-2010 school year. New requests from returning families alone tops $88,000. When we put all these requests together, the amount of tuition assistance requested for next year tops $230,000. The amount allocated from our budget is only $120,000 leaving us a gap of over $110,000.
It is our hope that you can again demonstrate your support of Westside and our community. The economy has affected us all one way or another. Think about what you might be able to give on Saturday, and please do your best to help us keep our community whole and thriving. I look forward to celebrating our Westside SPIRIT with you on Saturday.
If you are not coming to the auction, and would like to give to the tuition assistance fund-a-wish, please contact Jana at janar@westsideschool.org.

Auction Reminders!
Can you believe that the auction is Saturday? Here are just a few things to keep in mind!
Bring a bottle of wine!
Everyone brings a $12 or greater bottle of wine to the auction, and it all gets put together and auctioned off as the Westside wine cellar. Usually, we get so much wine that we can sell this item twice, and each bidder goes home with 50 to 75 bottles of wine. The wine is split by people “in the know” so that each winner gets an equal valued cellar.
Free Drinks!
For the first half hour! Come early – 5:30pm doors open – and enjoy free drinks until 6pm. Plus, you get first bid on some really GREAT items. You won’t believe some of the stuff in our silent, so don’t miss out!
Teacher Experiences
Kindergarten – 5th grade classrooms all have “teacher experiences.” These are usually towards the end of the year. (This year, 2nd grade’s is March 13th!). Sign up your child for his or her teacher experience online at the auction website. (Available on the westsideschool home page or by clicking here!)
Did you get your catalog?
Catalogs are available in the office. Please bring your copy with you to the auction. If you aren’t able to pick it up before Saturday, your catalog will be available for pick up there!
Great Ads
Make sure you check out the great ads in the back. We have more than ever, thank you Kate Petrich, advertising chair. Families and businesses are supporting Westside, and there some discounts and deals in the back that you don’t want to miss. Check it out!
