Toast of the Town Fund-a-Wish
What we have…..
Blue cracked plastic chairs, and old, shredded shades from 1964, a hodge-podge of old computers with inconsistent parts, teaching with an overhead projector and transparencies, a security system that relies on our office manager to identify who walks in our building, and bulletin boards and presentation pieces that take a huge amount of time to produce. That’s what we have now…..
What we envision…..
First Class Classrooms
for a Premier Education!
Our vision integrates technology into the upper classrooms, creates a better learning space for all grades and beefs up security.
Technology for the upper classrooms, grades 3, 4 and 5
18 new flat-screen monitors and computers for our students, with consistent hardware and software for easy use, to make technology an everyday part of learning... $ 20,000
Three Tablet PCs and LCD projectors for our teachers to truly allow technology to be integrated into the classroom. Working like an overhead projector, these Tablet PCs will easily allow our teachers to use technology more efficiently... $ 12,000
Classroom Aesthetics for all classrooms
Molded plastic chairs to make learning more comfortable $ 8,000
Vertical blinds to create more natural light... $ 6,200
Building Security
New security system for the entire school, including a keyless entry system and an intercom… $ 4,310
Bulletin Board Fun
A die-cut machine that will make bulletin boards fun, allowing teachers to cut-out shapes and letters with just the press of a paper-cutter … $ 2,000

Change in Late Start, School Closure Policy
Westside will continue to follow the Seattle Public Schools closure policy. However, we’ve made the following change: If Seattle Public Schools open with a late start, Westside has changed our late start time to 9:30am. There will be no early care, but there will be half-day preschool.

Pre-Kindergarten News
By Claudia Ross-Weston, Pre-K Teacher
The Pre-Kindergarten class has just launched our study of whales. We are listing all the information we already know about whales. Next we are going to determine what additional facts we would like to know and at the end of our study we will chart all of the new knowledge we have acquired. New vocabulary is introduced as we explore toothed and baleen whales, migration and feeding habits, and how whales breath. We also compare the length of different whales to our own heights, to the length of our building or to the length of the play area. Would a blue whale fit in our classroom? The children are exploring many questions. The children have also each drawn a whale on a quilt block. These squares are going to be assembled for our auction class project. Be certain you look for it at the auction. We have a talented group this year!

Sign-Ups Begin for Creative Movement Class
Check your email tomorrow for the sign-up form for our new movement/dance class for children age 4-6. We wanted to offer a class for the younger bunch because there are often age restrictions on our other classes. We are excited to welcome a new movement teacher to Westside. Her name is Jennifer Hansen and she has been a dance instructor for fifteen years in Seattle and Los Angeles. The class is $50 for 5 weeks and has a limit of 10 children.
