Space Still Available for Friday, Jan. 25 - Parent’s Night Out!

Just a friendly reminder to take advantage of a mid-winter’s night out and park the kids with our friendly and numerous 4th and 5th graders! We have an even dozen 4/5s anxious to run your children ragged in the gym (and a few parents to supervise), crafts, a movie and dinner all ready to go. Drop off any time after 5:30 at the Early Learning Center but be sure to pick them up by 9 pm! Click here to register your kids and help the 4/5s raise money for their four day Islandwood trip!

Westside SPIRIT Auction Donations

Last week, you received auction procurement information in the Update and in your take-home folder.

Just as a reminder, here’s part of the “hot” list: one-of-a-kind experiences, gift cards, parties, premium wines, vacation homes, sports tickets, spa and beauty services, entertainment. A good rule of thumb is this: if it’s something you want, it’s probably something someone else wants too!

If you have an idea for a donation, but not sure if you’re on the right track, email procurement chair Jana Barber at janabarber@comcast.net. The deadline for all donations is February 15, right before mid-winter break. Thanks!

Westside Presents a New Summer Program called Innerspark

July 7-11, July 14-18, July 21-25

Westside presents a new summer program, called Innerspark. It’s not just another summer camp! Innerspark will connect children with the global community. It will combine the fun and creativity of art with the mysteries of history, the lure of geography, and the diversity of the cultures of the world.

We live in a world of global connections. Children hear about world events; they go to school with children from around the world; they use products that are made all over the globe. Yet children learn best when their experiences are concrete and meaningful to their everyday lives. Through a variety of art experiences, children will explore the contributions of different cultures. Art is a language of understanding and respect for the diverse human spirit found throughout the world. Each learning opportunity offered during our Innerspark summer program will connect the global community with the joy of learning.

The cultural aspects of this program are meant to inspire and motivate young artists. Art helps children discover how geography, history, and time link all the people of the world together. Although different, we are all connected to the cultural heritage of our past.

There will be three, one-week sessions during the month of July. Parents may sign their children up for half or full day classes. Both morning and afternoon sessions will be split into two, age appropriate, workshops. Each session will be unique and offer an opportunity to explore a new world of global arts. We are currently working on the complete schedule of classes. Stay tuned for more information! Online registration will be available. Classes will be available for children entering grades 1-5 in the fall of 2008.
